Special Diabetes Project
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Colorado River Indian Tribes Special Diabetes Program is to provide diabetes prevention and management education to promote healthy lifestyle changes and to increase physical activity in our tribal community in order for members to lead a healthier life and reduce the impact of diabetes in our community.

Services Provided
Facilities and Exercise Classes:The SDP consists of two 6,400 sq ft facilities that consist of 25 cardio machines, over 40 strength training machines and a gymnasium which offers classes such as: Zumba, HIIT, Teen Fitness and Tai Chi.
Exercise Wellness Program: The Exercise Wellness Program supports diabetes prevention and management through personalized physical activity. Participants begin with a fitness assessment and baseline data collection to understand their current health status. Based on these results, an individualized exercise plan is created to fit each person’s needs, goals, and abilities.
Community Outreach Activities: Our program actively engages with the community through a variety of outreach efforts designed to promote diabetes awareness, prevention, and healthy living: Community & Department Outreaches, Random Blood Glucose (BGL) & Blood Pressure (BP) Checks, Mo-Chem-Ho-Na Senior Fitness Exercise and School Presentations.
Nutrition Education & Activities: Our program offers hands-on and practical nutrition support to help community members make healthier choices: Healthy Cooking Classes, Structured Physical Activity Events: We host organized physical activity events to promote fitness, fun, and community engagement such as; Walks/Runs – Family-friendly events encouraging all ages to get moving and stay active together.
Team Sporting Events – Community sports like basketball, softball, or volleyball that build teamwork, and boosts fitness.
